Merkid is a pure Water-type Pokémon.

Merkid's Evolution is gender dependent: Female Merkid Evolves into Mermarine and male Merkid Evolves into Mersidon, both when exposed to a Shiny Stone.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Merkid is a Pokémon based on a young mermaid/merman. They have two light aquamarine arms with no visible fingers, a tail that's yellow and either blue or pink, depending on its gender, a light aquamarine chest and belly area, and its light aquamarine head has two light aquamarine ears with either blue or pink insides, two white eyes with either blue or pink irises and black pupils, blue or pink hair, and a gold shell near one of its ears that looks a little bit like a prince/princess's crown. They also have a gold fin at their backs.

Gender Differences[]

A female Merkid has colored Pink, while a male Merkid is colored Blue. The female also has longer hair than the male and the yellow part at the female's chest looks more like a shirt, compared to the male's, which simply looks like a neck ring.

Special Abilities[]

They were once believed to be myths until their discovery in Rainbow Reef. Moving in schools, they would hypnotize people with their voices and make them leave them be.

Behavior[]

Merkid were believed to be a myth until they were discovered in Rainbow Reef. They move in schools and sing a hypnotic song to make people leave them be.

Habitat[]

Wild Merkid are found by Surfing in Rainbow Reef and at Lake Bliss, and also by Fishing with the Good/Super Rod at Lake Bliss.

Shiny Coloration Differences[]

For Shiny Merkid, the pink on the females turn light lavender, the blue on the males turns sea green, while the skin on both turns light orange.

Trivia[]

  • Prior to Version 1.0.1, Merkid uses Clampearl's cry.
  • Their older designs had them more fish-like in appearance and they also had a different face and appear to have a collar or frill on them. They also had 2 shells instead of only 1.
  • Merkid is one of the only Pokemon in Solar Light and Lunar to be in a branched evolution line, with Baawool and Guppish being the other 2.
    • Unlike Guppish and Baawool, however, Merkid can be captured in the Wild and is a Gender-based Evolution, similar to the official Pokémon, Burmy.
  • Its name is similar to the name of a Fakemon from Pokémon Uranium.

Origin[]

Merkid is based off of a young mermaid/merman. The ears might hint that they are also based on elves. Their designs may also be based off of princesses and princes due to the shell on their heads resembling a crown.

Name Origin[]

Merkid's name comes from the words Mermaid or Merman, and kid.
